Estimation of Illuminant Direction and Intensity of Multiple Light Sources
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a novel scheme for locating multiple light sources and estimating their intensities from a pair of stereo images of a sphere. No prior knowledge of the location and radius of the sphere is necessary. The sphere surface is not assumed to be a pure Lambertian surface, instead, it has both Lambertian and specular properties. The light source locating algorithm is based on the fact that the Lambertian intensity is not dependent on the direction of view point, while the specular intensity is highly dependent on the direction of the view point. From this fact, we can use a pair of stereo images whose view point changes can be utilized to separate the image of the sphere into two images, one with Lambertian intensities, and the other with specular intensities. The specular image is used to nd the directions of the light sources, and then Lambertian image model is used to nd the intensities of the light sources. Experiments on both synthetic and real images show that the scheme is successful and robust in nding the directions of the light sources accurately with accurate intensity estimation.

Multiple Directional Illuminant Estimation from a Single Image
We present a new method for the detection and estimation of multiple directional illuminants, using only one single image of an object of arbitrary known geometry. The surface is not assumed to be pure Lambertian, instead, it can have both Lambertian and specular properties. We propose a novel methodology that integrates information from shadows, shading and specularities in the presence of str...
متن کاملIlluminant direction estimation for a single image based on local region complexity analysis and average gray value.
Illuminant direction estimation is an important research issue in the field of image processing. Due to low cost for getting texture information from a single image, it is worthwhile to estimate illuminant direction by employing scenario texture information. This paper proposes a novel computation method to estimate illuminant direction on both color outdoor images and the extended Yale face da...
متن کاملImage analysis using modulated light sources
With the development of high-speed CMOS imagers, it is possible to acquire and process multiple images within the imager, prior to output. We refer to an imaging architecture that acquires a collection of images and produces a single result as multiple capture single image (MCSI). In this paper we describe some applications of the MCSI architecture using a monochrome sensor and modulating light...
متن کاملScene Illuminant Estimation with Binocular Stereo Matching
Scene illuminant estimation is an important issue in both computer vision and computer graphics. For example, shape from shading and photometric stereo algorithms need the light source directions as prior knowledge, segmentation algorithms can be improved if we know the information about the illumination sources, and we can combine synthetic imagery with a real scene in a seamless manner if the...
متن کاملEstimation of illuminant direction, albedo, and shape from shading
A robust approach to recovery of shape from shading information is presented. Assuming uniform albedo and Lambertian surface for the imaging model, we first present methods for the estimation of illuminant direction and surface albedo. The illuminant azimuth is estimated by averaging local estimates. The illuminant elevation and surface albedo are estimated from image statistics. Using the esti...
